A group of anti-abortion Republicans temporarily derailed business on the Texas House floor in an attempt to block a resolution honoring late Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.
For 16 minutes on Thursday, the Republicans repeatedly implored House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) to remove the resolution from the calendar.
"Mr. Speaker, if a member is opposed to a resolution such as honoring a famed abortionist in the state of Texas on the congratulatory or memorial resolutions calendar, is there a procedure under the House rules to consider that resolution separately?" Rep. Brian Harrison (R) asked.
"No, there is not," Burrows answered.
"So it is the only way we can actually kill this horrific resolution is to vote down the resolutions calendar," Rep. Nate Schatzline (R) queried.
"That is your choice," the speaker noted.
Republicans attempted to postpone the resolution, but Burrows told them they could not.

"There's no possible way that any one of our members can come and speak against recognizing an abortionist on the Texas House floor today?" Schatzline wondered.
"That is not a proper parliamentary inquiry," Burrows replied.
"You are not denying that you are in fact responsible for Planned Parenthood being honored today on today's calendar!" the representative countered. "It's an outrage!"
