CHICAGO ( January 22, 2018 ) — Planned Parenthood Illinois Action PAC ( PPIA PAC ) will mark the 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, on Wednesday January 24 at the City Winery in Chicago. PPIA PAC recognizes the need for continued access to safe and legal abortion for a woman if and when she needs to consider it. A majority of Americans support and respect the decision each woman must make about her own pregnancy and oppose efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Guests will hear from Planned Parenthood Illinois Action President and CEO, Jennifer Welch and Oliver Platt, Chicago Med star and activist. Co-founder of Catharsis Productions and co-author of Sex Signals, Dr. Gail Stern will be the mistress of ceremonies.
This year we are thrilled to be honoring Senator Heather Steans and Representative Sara Feigenholtz with the Richard J. Phelan Profile in Courage Award for their leadership and dedication to reproductive rights in Illinois. Senator Steans and Representative Feigenholtz were the chief sponsors of House Bill 40 that was signed into law in September 2017. House Bill 40 ensures that abortion remains legal in Illinois no matter what happens in Washington D.C. and removes restrictions on abortion coverage for State Employee insurance plans and Medicaid.
All proceeds benefit PPIA PAC, an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood in Illinois ( PPIL ).
